2011 Pot O’Gold Cultural Grants

 

 

Celtic Studies – St. Michael’s College                                                 $8,000.00

The grant funds annual series of lectures at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto, in the fall of 2011 and spring of 2012.  It brings to the University and the Irish community speakers of the highest calibre to speak on a range of topics including politics, poetry, history, literature and archaeology.  Admission to this series of lectures is free.

 

Emerald Isle Seniors Society                                                              $10,000.00

To assist in the rental costs of their drop in centre located at 1190 Danforth Avenue.  Their purpose is to provide recreational, social, cultural and educational activities and programs geared to the needs of senior citizens and to address the danger of social isolation.

 

St. Patrick’s Parade Society                                                                $10,000.00

To pay the entry fees of all participating counties in the 2011 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Toronto as well as paying costs of additional parade enhancements.

 

Gaelic Athletic Association of Toronto                                               $5,000.00

To pay the costs of permits for the use of fields at Centennial Park for the 2011 Season.

 

Toronto Irish Players                                                                             $6,000.00

To cover part of the cost of the rental of Alumnae Theatre (Berkeley & Adelaide) for two, three-week drama productions as well as costs associated with rental of storage facility of stage props.

 

Celtic Camps – Irish Summer Schools                                               $2,000.00

To assist with various costs associated with operating the 3 Irish Summer Schools in 2011.

 

Chris Langan Celtic Music Weekend                                                   $1,500.00

To assist with various costs associated with their Traditional Irish Music Weekend, May 27, 28, 29, 2011.

 

St. Paul’s School of Irish Music                                                            $2,000.00

The grant assists with various operating costs to enhance the Irish Music Program at St. Paul’s Elementary School located in the Regent Park area.  St. Paul’s is built on top of the mass graveyard of the 1847 Irish Famine Victims where 863 recorded burials took place.

 

Irish Canadian Rugby Club                                                                   $1,500.00

To assist in the continuing development of the men’s and women’s rugby programs.

 

Anna Livia Productions                                                                         $1,000.00

To assist with various operating costs associated with Bloomsday 2011 commemorating the life and writings of James Joyce.

 

Irish Choral Society                                                                               $1,500.00

The Irish Choral Society provides performances of choral music which is Irish or Celtic in genre and composed by Irish musicians or musicians of Irish decent.

 

MacKenzie Ro:  The Irish Repertory Theatre of Canada                  $1,500.00

To assist with costs associated with production and staging.
